On July 3 2012, the Symposium on International Commerce Arbitration 2012, sponsored by the International Court (the Court) of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), China Chamber of International Commerce (CCOIC) and undertaken by China Council for the Promotion Of International Trade Sichuan Council (CCPITSC) and Sichuan Sub-commission of CIETAC, was hold at 9:00 am in Chengdu Sofitel Wanda Tuileries Palace Auditorium. Attorney Zhao Junxi was invited as one of the representatives of Sichuan Dingli Law Firm and Sichuan foreign lawyers to present at the meeting.

The Symposium is aiming at providing legal experts and companies concerned from China West, especial Sichuan Province in the context of administering and enforcing new arbitration rules 2012 regulated by ICC and CIETAC, with knowledge of the latest developing trend of international commercial arbitration, opportunity of being familiar with new rules on international commercial arbitration and lately developed arbitral cases, in order to encourage and promote employment of new international arbitral rules consistent with international practice for solving all kinds of disputes especially cross-border disputes.

The subjects of the Symposium are to introduce the latest development of international arbitration rules, new trend and cases involving arbitral affairs in China and other Asian countries, and practice, challenge, long-term outlook confronted by present international arbitration. The Symposium was presided over by Mr. Chen Min, the secretary-general of Southwest Sub-commission of CIETAC. The Chairman of the Court of ICC Mr. John Beechey, the Deputy Director of CIETAC Mr. Yu Jianlong, the Foreign-related Section Chief of CIETAC Ms. Wang Jie, and the principal attorneys/partners in charge of international arbitral business from Dejie, Sidley, Zhonglun, Jindu and Fangda law firms addressed separately on different topics abundant in contents with regard to newly modified detailed arbitration rules 2012 of ICC, the latest developing trend of international arbitration in Asia (mainly referred to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia arbitral jurisdictions), fresh experiences in disposal of arbitral cases, internationalization of Chinese legal practice in the field of international arbitration, and the latest practice, challenge, long-term outlook confronted presently by China internal and international arbitration.

In the Symposium, Attorney Zhao Junxi actively communicated with all addressors on, also having a deep analysis of, the hot issues such as the application in home or international arbitral process of newly modified detailed arbitration rules 2012 of ICC and of conservatory and interim measures newly regulated in arbitration rules 2012 by CIETAC, the contrast between arbitral jurisdictions of Asian countries and the Court of ICC, the cognizance of normal action of legal entity and state immunity confronted by Chinese state-or private-owned companies’ participation in international arbitration, the effect on international arbitral practice caused by Chinese and western cultural difference, the technical expertise in the selection of arbitrators, findings of the fact, expert evidence or witness, initiation of interlocutory process and application of injunctions, global enforcement of the arbitral awards. These discussions gained widely good comments from attendees who further understood the practice and the peculiar role of participating in the international arbitration. Whether during, at the intervals of, or after the symposium, Attorney Zhao Junxi actively communicated on more extensive issues with the principals of ICC, of the Chinese companies and legal experts, fully demonstrating the high level of expertise in dealing with foreign legal businesses with an excellent professional attainment.
